Which eyebrow treatment works depends on whether the follicles are still there
Three different problems are brought to clinics as “thin eyebrows”. Follicles scarred by years of plucking or a scarring alopecia cannot be regrown, and the choice is between transplanting new follicles and drawing the hair on. Follicles that are alive but producing fine, short hairs may respond to a growth stimulant. Hair that is intact above a sagged brow needs the brow lifted. The self-check at Eyebrow thinning and loss causes separates the three, and the overview is at Eyebrows. Any patchy or recent loss should be diagnosed by a doctor before a cosmetic treatment is chosen.
Eyebrow transplant Singapore, cost, grafts and results
Follicular unit extraction (FUE) takes individual follicles from the back of the scalp, usually single-hair grafts, and implants them one by one into the brow at the correct angle and direction. The transplanted hairs grow as scalp hair, so they need trimming every few weeks, and over years they often adapt partly to a brow-like cycle.
- Who it suits. Permanent loss from over-plucking, scars, burns or inactive scarring alopecia, thin brows that have not responded to growth treatments, and anyone who wants real hair rather than pigment. It is the lead option for permanent loss.
- Evidence Grade C. Supported by case series showing graft survival of around 80-90 per cent and high satisfaction at one year. No controlled trials compare it with other options.
- 2026 Singapore price. S$5,000-8,000 per procedure before GST on published clinic pages (S$7,000-8,000 at the one clinic that lists a full procedure price), or about S$8 per graft where priced by graft. A full brow reconstruction uses 150-400 grafts per side, so 300-800 grafts in total.
- Sessions. One, taking two to four hours under local anaesthetic. A second smaller session for density is needed in perhaps one in five cases.
- Downtime. Crusting and redness at the brow for seven to ten days, while the donor area at the back of the scalp heals in a week. Transplanted hairs shed at two to four weeks and regrow from month three, with the full result at six to twelve months.
- Risks. Poor angle or direction giving an unnatural look (the main risk, and operator-dependent), lower graft survival in scarred skin, small cysts, temporary swelling of the eyelids, and ongoing need for trimming.
Eyebrow transplant vs microblading and eyebrow embroidery
Microblading uses a hand-held blade of fine needles to deposit pigment in hair-like strokes in the upper dermis. Eyebrow embroidery is the Singapore term for the same family of techniques, which now includes machine-shaded “misty” or “ombre” brows, “6D” and “9D” stroke patterns and combination brows. The result is a drawn brow that fades over one to three years.
- Who it suits. Permanent loss where a transplant is not wanted or affordable, thin brows that need density or a reshaped tail, active alopecia where a transplant is not possible, and anyone who wants to stop daily pencilling.
- Evidence Grade D. No published outcome studies. The published reports concern complications (pigment migration, colour change, infection, allergic reaction), and the benefit claims are marketing only.
- 2026 Singapore price. S$300-1,900 on published salon and clinic price lists, with most first-session prices at S$300-900 and premium artists at S$1,000-1,900. A first touch-up at four to eight weeks is often included or charged at S$120-250.
- Sessions. One plus a touch-up, then a refresh every twelve to eighteen months. Oily skin fades faster, in six to twelve months, while dry skin holds for twelve to twenty-four months.
- Downtime. Darker and sharper for five to seven days while it scabs, with no water, sweat or make-up on the brow for a week.
- Risks. Pigment that blurs or turns grey, orange or blue over time, asymmetry, infection, allergic reaction to pigment, scarring from aggressive blading, and interference with future laser treatment. Removal needs several sessions of laser or saline tattooing.
Botox brow lift in Singapore
A small dose of botulinum toxin is placed in the muscles that pull the brow down, the outer orbicularis oculi beneath the brow tail and sometimes the glabellar muscles, so that the forehead muscle lifts the brow unopposed. The result is a lift of the outer brow by one to three millimetres and an opening of the eye.
- Who it suits. Mild brow ptosis with a tired or hooded look, flat brows in which more arch is wanted, and anyone already having toxin for crow’s feet or frown lines.
- Evidence Grade B. Controlled studies show a measurable elevation of the outer brow of about one to three millimetres lasting three to four months. The effect is modest and not comparable with surgery.
- 2026 Singapore price. S$150-400 as a stand-alone area on published price lists, or included in a two- or three-area package at S$300-1,200.
- Sessions. One, repeated every three to four months.
- Downtime. None.
- Risks. A brow that drops rather than lifts if forehead toxin is added in the wrong place or dose, over-arched “surprised” brows, eyelid droop in a small minority, and asymmetry. All are temporary.
Thread brow lift in Singapore
Dissolvable barbed or cone threads of polydioxanone (PDO), poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) or polycaprolactone (PCL) are passed under the skin from the hairline to the brow and tightened, lifting the outer brow by a few millimetres and stimulating collagen along the thread as it dissolves over six to twelve months.
- Who it suits. Moderate brow ptosis in people who want more lift than toxin gives and are not ready for surgery.
- Evidence Grade C. Supported only by small case series and expert consensus. There are no controlled trials, and most studies of threads concern the mid-face rather than the brow.
- 2026 Singapore price. S$1,000-2,500 for the brows alone, based on published thread lift pricing of S$2,000-6,000 for the full face scaled to the two to four threads per side used at the brow.
- Sessions. One, lasting twelve to eighteen months.
- Downtime. Swelling and bruising for three to seven days, then tightness and puckering for two to three weeks.
- Risks. Thread visibility or migration, dimpling, asymmetry, infection, early loss of lift, and a short-lived result relative to cost. A surgical brow lift (S$6,000-15,000) is the longer-lasting option for marked ptosis.
Minoxidil and bimatoprost for eyebrows
Minoxidil 2-5 per cent solution and bimatoprost 0.03 per cent (the prostaglandin analogue used for eyelash growth) are both used off-label on the eyebrows. Minoxidil lengthens the growth phase and enlarges miniaturised follicles, while bimatoprost lengthens and thickens individual hairs.
- Who it suits. Thinning from ageing or past plucking where fine hairs are still visible. Neither is useful where the skin is scarred and bare.
- Evidence Grade B. Controlled studies of each show a measurable increase in eyebrow hair count and thickness at four to six months compared with placebo, and the gain is lost within months of stopping.
- 2026 Singapore price. Minoxidil S$30-80 per bottle over the counter, bimatoprost S$150-250 per bottle on prescription. A bottle lasts two to three months on the brows.
- Sessions. Nightly, indefinitely.
- Downtime. None.
- Risks. Minoxidil can irritate and cause unwanted hair growth where it runs, while bimatoprost can darken the skin of the brow and, if it reaches the eye, the iris, and can cause redness or itching.
Brow serums and home options
Peptide brow serums, castor oil, rosemary oil and biotin supplements are widely sold for brow growth. Tinted brow gels, pencils and pomades give an immediate cosmetic result without any effect on the hair.
- Evidence Grade D for growth serums, oils and biotin without a proven deficiency, with no published evidence beyond marketing claims. Some “growth” serums contain an undeclared prostaglandin analogue similar to bimatoprost and carry the same darkening risk.
- 2026 Singapore price. Serums S$30-150, brow make-up S$15-60.
- Downtime and risks. None for make-up. Irritation and skin darkening are possible with undisclosed prostaglandin serums.

How to choose an eyebrow treatment
- Rule out a medical cause. Patchy loss, scarred skin, a receding hairline, or symptoms of thyroid disease or deficiency (see Eyebrow thinning and loss causes) need a dermatologist first. Treating the cause may regrow the brow and a transplant into active disease fails.
- Fine hairs still visible. Minoxidil or bimatoprost nightly for six months, with a brow pencil in the meantime. A sufficient result is maintained, and an insufficient one moves to the next step.
- Bare, scarred skin and permanent loss. An FUE transplant if real hair matters and the budget allows, or microblading or embroidery if a drawn result is acceptable, with the understanding that it fades and may change colour.
- Hair present but the brow has dropped. A botulinum toxin brow lift first, because it is inexpensive and reversible. If the lift is insufficient, a thread lift, and for marked ptosis a surgical brow lift.
- Both thin and low, which is common after 50. Lift first, then address density, because a lifted brow often looks fuller on its own.
- Before any toxin to the forehead or glabella, the brow position is checked. Toxin for frown or forehead lines can lower a brow that is already low. See Frown lines treatment Singapore.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an eyebrow transplant cost in Singapore?
Published 2026 clinic prices are S$5,000-8,000 per procedure before GST, or about S$8 per graft where priced by graft. A full reconstruction uses 150-400 grafts per brow.
Is an eyebrow transplant permanent?
Yes. The transplanted follicles come from the back of the scalp and keep growing for life. They grow as scalp hair and need trimming every few weeks, and roughly ten to twenty per cent of grafts do not survive.
How long does microblading last in Singapore?
One to three years, depending on skin type and technique. Oily skin fades in six to twelve months, dry skin holds for twelve to twenty-four months. A touch-up at four to eight weeks and a refresh every twelve to eighteen months are typical.
Can Botox lift the eyebrows?
Yes, by one to three millimetres at the outer brow, for three to four months. It suits mild sagging and a tired look. It cannot lift a heavily hooded brow, and toxin placed in the forehead can lower the brow instead.
Does minoxidil work on eyebrows?
Controlled studies show a measurable increase in eyebrow hair count and thickness after four to six months of nightly minoxidil in brows where follicles are still alive. It has no effect where the skin is scarred and bare, the gain is lost within months of stopping, and use on the eyebrows is off-label.
General information, not medical advice. A registered medical practitioner should be consulted before any treatment. Dark Eye Circles Singapore does not sell treatments and is not a clinic.
